St. Mary's City, Md. – The Seahawk midfield unit was on point Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team (2-1, 2-1 CAC) posted a 13-9 Capital Athletic Conference win over visiting Frostburg State University (1-2, 1-2 CAC) as four midfielders either set or matched career-highs.

Senior Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) notched career-highs of five assists and seven points while sophomore Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) matched her career-bests of three goals and four points.  South River High School graduates, junior Melissa Mayer (Crofton, Md.) and sophomore Lauren Gray (Edgewater, Md.) both tallied personal-bests of two goals each.

Frostburg State opened up with a 2-0 lead before back-to-back goals by Mayer spurred a 4-0 Seahawk run to claim a 4-2 lead.  Sophomore midfielder Taylor Cassatt (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) pulled the Bobcats within 4-3 as Cassatt converted her second free position shot of the day at 25:31.  St. Mary's scored seven unanswered goals to take an 11-3 advantage into halftime.

Cassatt finished as Frostburg's scoring leader with a hat trick while first-years Malory Brunett (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and Katelyn Kesecker (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) both finished with three points as well.  Brunett had two goals and an assist while Kesecker netted a goal and two assists.

The Bobcats halted St. Mary's 7-0 run by starting the second half with three consecutive goals in a four-minute span, closing the gap to 11-6 with 23:29 remaining.  Mirkin broke up the run with her second goal of the day at 15:23.  FSU came within 12-8 at 7:33 following back-to-back goals by Brunett and sophomore midfielder Myra Derbyshire (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin).  Kesecker converted on a free position shot at 2:03 to her team within four.  Frostburg failed to generate any offense in the final two minutes, turning the ball over twice.

St. Mary's dominated the draw control, 17-7, including winning all nine in the second half, as Shackelford came up with a career-high six.  Ground balls were even at 21 apiece while the Seahawks edged FSU, 27-24, in shots.

In goal, junior Colleen Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) recorded 10 saves and six goals against before being lifted for senior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) with 23:29 remaining in the game.  Roberts made three saves while allowing three goals.

St. Mary's hopes to keep its winning ways alive as the Seahawks travel to Chestertown, Md. to take on non-conference opponent and first-year Seahawk head coach Lisa Valentine's old stomping grounds, Washington College, on Wednesday, March 2 at 4:00 pm.  Coach Valentine spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons at Washington before taking over at St. Mary's.
