St. Mary's City, Md. – Sophomore midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied four goals and four assists in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team to a decisive 19-8 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday morning.
St. Mary's (5-2) scored two goals in a 38-second span for a 2-0 lead before Ohio Wesleyan (0-4) notched three unanswered goals to claim its first and only lead of the game at 16:05. The Seahawks responded with five straight to stake a 7-3 advantage at 9:12. After sophomore midfielder Meredith Wholley (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) found the back of the net for the Battling Bishops, St. Mary's reeled off the final five goals of the half, including two in the final 55 seconds, to assume a 12-4 halftime lead.
Sophomore midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) finished with three goals and an assist while senior attacker Maggie Macleay (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) recorded a hat trick to join Parker with multiple-goal performances. Senior midfielder Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) picked up two goals and two assists while junior attacker Lauren Bennett (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) dished out three assists and a goal.
Two Ohio Wesleyan goals at the start of the second half sandwiched Shackelford's first goal before St. Mary's scored twice to take a nine-goal lead at 16:36. The Seahawks outscored OWU, 4-2, in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Senior midfielder Marlowe Mavian (Columbus, Ohio/Wellington) paced the Battling Bishops with three goals and an assist while sophomore attacker Annie Swanson (McLean, Va./Langley) chipped in two goals.
St. Mary's outshot the visitors by a 42-20 count while dominating ground balls, 28-17. The Seahawks ruled the draw control as well with an 18-11 margin as first-year midfielder Claire Tiffany (California, Md./Leonardtown) won five draws.
In goal, junior Colleen Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) recorded six saves with four goals against in 34:21 minutes of action. Senior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) came in for Simpson and made two stops.
St. Mary's returns to action later today when the Seahawks take on Centenary (N.J.) College in non-conference action at 3:00 pm.
