St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team returned to the win column Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 shutout of non-conference opponent, Goucher College at the Somerset Tennis Complex.
St. Mary's (13-9) will complete its 2011 campaign on Monday, April 25 at 3:30 pm as Lancaster Bible College comes to the Somerset Tennis Complex for Senior Day. Seniors Nick Ibello (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall), Jeff Levy (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton), and Stoytch Nechev (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) will be recognized prior to the start of the match.
The tandem of sophomores Kyle Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and Lukas Iraola (Kensington, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) started the scoring for the Seahawks with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles, marking their third straight doubles win.
The doubles team of first-years John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and Jay Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) also recorded their third consecutive doubles win with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles as St. Mary's headed into singles action with a 3-0 lead.
The Seahawks captured all the singles matches in straight sets as Feighner recorded his third consecutive singles victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win over senior Dave Hemelt (Carney, Md./Loch Raven) at No. 4 singles for his ninth win of the season.
Feeley also notched his ninth singles win of the season with his 6-0, 6-1 victory over sophomore Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) at the third singles flight while Iraola improved to 4-2 at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over sophomore Benjamin Snyder (Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris).
