St. Mary's City, Md. – The six seniors on this year's St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team ended their careers on top as the Seahawks posted a 16-12 victory over Christopher Newport University Sunday afternoon in the season finale for St. Mary's.  Today's win caps the Seahawks' 2011 campaign with a 12-6 overall record.

Before the contest, Elisa Bateman (Sparks, Md./Hereford), Arianna Larrimore (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island), Maggie Macleay (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), Christina Parr (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) and Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) were recognized for their years of service to the Seahawk women's lacrosse program.  The Seahawks notched a four-year record of 48-26, including a Capital Athletic Conference mark of 22-7, with their leadership.  They helped St. Mary's advance to the CAC Tournament semifinals three times and guided the team to the program's second CAC runner-up title as well as a seventh trip to the NCAAs in 2008.

St. Mary's jumped out to a 3-1 lead at 16:30 behind two goals from Macleay.  The Captains (13-4) tied up the game at 3-all in a span of 1:23 as senior attacker Meghan Harkey (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) had a goal and an assist.  The two teams exchanged two-goal runs and the contest remained tied until the Seahawks broke the 5-5 deadlock with three unanswered goals for an 8-5 lead at 1:02.  Harkey struck with 50 seconds left to close the gap to two, heading into halftime.

Macleay concluded her four-year career with career-bests of five goals and six assists while Mirkin and sophomore midfielders Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Emily Shafer (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) each tallied two goals and an assist.  Sophomore midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) dished out three assists and chipped in a goal while sophomore Amelia Tenberg (Parkton, Md./Hereford) contributed a pair of goals.

After CNU scored the first goal of the second half, the Seahawks rattled off five straight, including three points (2 G, 1 A) from Macleay, in a three-minute span to stretch their lead to 13-7.  The Captains would outscore St. Mary's, 5-3, in the final 21 minutes for the 16-12 final.

Harkey paced Christopher Newport with four goals and two assists while senior midfielder Kaitlin Quigley (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley) contributed two goals and two helpers.

St. Mary's outshot the Captains, 33-20, while edging the visitors, 18-17, in ground balls as Parker scooped up four loose balls and Shackelford added three.  The Seahawks dominated draw controls by a 20-9 margin as Mirkin came away with a career-high eight and midfielders Lauren Bennett (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Claire Tiffany (California, Md./Leonardtown) grabbed four apiece.

Roberts played all 60 minutes in goal for St. Mary's, making four saves and gaining two ground balls in improving to 2-1 on the season.
