Harrisburg, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team notched their second straight victory with a 9-0 shutout of future Capital Athletic Conference member, Penn State Harrisburg, Saturday afternoon.
The fall portion of the 2012-13 campaign came to a close with today's win. The Seahawks (3-2) will return to action on February 17, 2013 when St. Mary's opens up conference play at the University of Mary Washington with a match at 2:30 pm.
Senior Kyle Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and junior John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) improved to 7-2 on the season with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over juniors Vincent Lepore III (Chepachet, R.I.) and David Pottle (York, Pa.).
Junior Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and his partner, first-year Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster), moved to 6-2 on the year with their shutout victory at No. 1 doubles over first-year Ben Leibig (Lebanon, Pa.) and senior Evgeny Matigullin (New Bloomfield, Pa.), marking the duo's fifth consecutive doubles win.
Junior J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and first-year Wyatt Paulishak (Frederick, Md./Middletown) wrapped up the doubles action for the Seahawks, outlasting sophomore Zachry Warriner (Montrose, Pa.) and Vishnu Gopalakrishnan (Ashburn, Va.), 9-8, at No. 3 doubles.
Gear recorded a double-bagel victory over Leibig at No. 1 singles while Hardesty posted a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Matigullin at No. 2 singles.
Feeley earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lepore at No. 3 singles followed by a 6-3, 6-0 win by Feighner over Pottle at the fourth singles flight.
Guzzone notched his team-leading sixth singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles over Warriner while Paulishak ended the match with a 6-3, 7-6 triumph in the sixth singles flight over senior Tyler Loy (Annville, Pa.).
