Box Score Brooklandville, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team struggled to find an offensive rhythm Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks suffered a 9-2 non-conference setback at the hands of the Red Devils of Dickinson College.
St. Mary's (0-2) tallied a goal in each half as junior midfielders Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) and Amelia Tenberg (Parkton, Md./Hereford) both found the back of the net.
The game was tied early on at 1-1 as Dickinson (2-0) struck first just 11 seconds in and Parker answered back with her first goal of the season at 23:51. The Red Devils finished the half with seven straight to own an 8-1 lead at halftime.
Dickinson scored the first goal of the second half at 24:00 before Tenberg picked up her second of the season at 16:33. The Red Devils continued to pepper Seahawk senior goalkeeper Colleen Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) with shots, taking eight in the final 16:33 of the game with seven of those being denied by Simpson.
Simpson finished the contest with her second consecutive 11-save effort and added four ground balls while first-year defender Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) paced the defensive effort for the Seahawks with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior attacker Emily Shafer (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) won three draw controls.
Dickinson outshot St. Mary's, 27-14, while edging them in ground balls (24-23) and draw controls (6-5).
The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, February 29 as St. Mary's travels to Virginia Beach, Va., to take on Virginia Wesleyan College in non-conference action at 4:00 pm.
