Arlington, Va. – Eleven first half goals propelled the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 16-8 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the host Marymount (Va.) University Saints Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) posted career-highs of four goals and six points while fellow classmate Emily Shafer (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) tallied career-bests of three assists and five points.  First-year midfielder Daniella Hanacek (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) contributed to the Seahawk offense with her first collegiate hat trick.

St. Mary's (5-4, 1-0 CAC) and Marymount traded goals to start off the first half before the Seahawks rattled off three straight in less than five minutes for a 4-1 St. Mary's lead at 19:57.  The Saints then scored two of the next three goals to close the gap to 5-3 at 12:25.  The Seahawks responded with five unanswered goals, including a goal and two assists by Shafer, to sport a 10-3 advantage at 5:42.  The squads traded goals once again as St. Mary's headed into intermission with an 11-4 margin.

First-year attacker Taylor Johnson (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) paced the Saint offense with four goals and an assist while junior midfielder Stephanie Flood (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) added two goals and senior Tancy Weatherford (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) dished out two assists.

Johnson netted three of the second half's first four goals to pull Marymount within 12-7 at 23:19.  St. Mary's answered back with three consecutive goals to boast an eight-goal cushion at 17:21.  Flood converted on a free position shot at 14:30 for the Saints' eighth goal of the game.  Neither team got an offense going for the next 11 minutes until sophomore defender Claire Tiffany (California, Md./Leonardtown) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Marymount (2-6, 1-2 CAC) edged St. Mary's in shots, 30-29, and ground balls, 26-20; however, the Seahawks posted a 15-11 advantage in draw controls as Shackelford won five.  Defensively, junior midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) and first-year defender Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) each had a pair of caused turnovers while Decker scooped up six ground balls.

Seahawk senior goalie Colleen Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) registered 11 saves and two ground balls in 55 minutes before being relieved by first-years Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Kelly Shuman (Columbia, Md./Atholton).

The Seahawks will look to extend their win streak to three on Wednesday, March 28 as St. Mary's welcomes No. 16 University of Mary Washington (6-2) to Seahawk Stadium for Capital Athletic Conference action at 4:00 pm.
