Fredericksburg, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team saw its 10-match win streak come to an end Sunday evening at the hands of No. 16 University of Mary Washington. The Seahawks suffered an 8-1 setback to Mary Washington to fall to 10-2, 0-1 CAC on the season.
Sunday's lost is the first for the Seahawks since dropping a 7-2 decision to Catholic University of America on September 10, 2011.
Senior captain Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) notched the team's lone point at No. 3 singles.
St. Mary's closest matches came in doubles action as the tandem of junior Arvin Wong (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and sophomore Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) picked up a heartbreaking 8-9 (3-7) loss at No. 1 doubles.
The duo of sophomores J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) also fought hard for the Seahawks, falling 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
The Seahawks will look to get back in the win column on Thursday, March 29 as St. Mary's travels to Towson, Maryland to take on Goucher College in non-conference action at 3:00 pm.
