Towson, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team returned to the win column Thursday afternoon with its sixth shutout victory of the season as the Seahawks breezed past the host Goucher College Gophers, 9-0, in non-conference action.

With Thursday's win, sixth-year head coach Derek Sabedra and sixth-year associate head coach Giac Tran equaled the late Paul Spencer's school record of 60 men's tennis coaching victories.  Sabedra and Tran have guided the Seahawk men to a 60-48 mark in six seasons.

St. Mary's (11-2) easily handled the Gophers (0-12) in doubles play, dropping only three sets in three doubles matches.

It was much of the same in singles action as the Seahawks yielded just 11 sets in straight victories in all six flights.

Senior captain Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) extended his win streak to 11 in a row with his 6-0, 6-2 win over junior Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) at No. 3 singles.  Hoesman owns a 13-3 overall record, including a 12-1 mark in dual matches.

The squad currently features five players with double-digit wins on the season as sophomore Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) leads the flock with 14 closely followed by Hoesman and sophomore J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) each with 13.

Sophomore John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) is next with a dozen victories while junior Kyle Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) rounds the top five after posting a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles for this 10th win of the season.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, March 31 as St. Mary's travels to Frederick, Maryland to take on Hood College (1-8) in Capital Athletic Conference action at 1:00 pm.
