3/31/2012 12:00:00 AM

Frederick, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team picked up its second consecutive win Saturday afternoon with its seventh shutout victory of the season over host Hood College, marking the Seahawks' first Capital Athletic Conference triumph of 2012.

The sixth-year coaching staff of head coach Derek Sabedra and associate head coach Giac Tran became the school's all-time leader in men's tennis coaching victories with 61, surpassing the mark of 60 set by the late Paul Spencer (1992-2000).  Sabedra and Tran have guided the Seahawk men to a 61-48 mark in six seasons.

St. Mary's (12-2, 1-1 CAC) cruised past the Blazers (1-9, 0-3 CAC), losing only four sets between three doubles matches.  The Seahawks followed that up by dropping just eight sets in six singles matches.

The winning continued for senior captain Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) as Hoesman extended his win streak to 12 with his 6-0, 6-1 win over junior Travis Kline (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) at No. 3 singles.  Hoesman owns a 14-3 overall record, including a 13-1 mark in dual matches and an undefeated 12-0 record at third flight.

As a team, St. Mary's owns a 79-23 singles record, including a 69-15 mark over 14 dual matches.  The Seahawks boast an even more impressive record in doubles play, having fallen only nine times in doubles for a 37-9 team record.

The Seahawks will be busy on Sunday, April 1 as St. Mary's takes on Frostburg State University at 9:30 am in a league match followed by a non-conference match against NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College at 12:30 pm.  Both matches will take place in Frostburg, Maryland.
