Parker's Seven Points Propels Seahawk Women's Lacrosse to Win at Wesley

Dover, Del. – Junior midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) notched a game-high seven points to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team to its second consecutive win – a 19-12 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the host Wesley College Wolverines Tuesday afternoon.

Parker scored a season-best four goals while dishing out three assists in the win.  Junior midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) was not far behind with five points as Shackelford matched her career-high of four goals and added a helper.  Fellow classmate Emily Shafer (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) had a career performance as well with four goals on the day.

The Seahawks (7-7, 3-3 CAC) equaled their season-high of 19 goals as the team fired a season-best 49 shots.  St. Mary's also scooped up a season-high 39 loose balls as Shackelford hustled to a career-high eight ground balls.

St. Mary's opened up the game with a 6-0 run before Wesley (6-8, 0-6 CAC) scored twice in a one-minute span to finally get on the scoreboard at 16:31.  The Seahawks then notched four of the next six goals to pull ahead 10-4 at 1:28.  Wesley's junior midfielder Jen Jacobs (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) tallied a goal with six seconds left as the visitors went into halftime with a 10-5 advantage.

Senior midfielder Alyssa Prudente (Manchester, Md./Hereford) paced the Wolverines in the loss with five goals and an assist while Jacobs and junior midfielder Nina Cornog (Wilmington, Del./Concord) each picked up two goals and a helper.

Senior attacker Lauren Bennett (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson), who finished the afternoon with a hat trick, started the Seahawk scoring in the second half with her third tally of the day at 28:01.  St. Mary's went on score six of the next eight goals for a 16-7 margin at 16:14.  Wesley responded with five consecutive goals in a span of eight minutes and 22 seconds to close the gap to four goals at 6:32.  The Seahawks sealed the deal with three straight scores, including Shackelford's free position goal with 12 ticks on the clock.

St. Mary's edged the Wolverines, 17-16, in draw controls as Shackelford won five and Shafer and sophomore defender Claire Tiffany (California, Md./Leonardtown) picked up four each.  Shafer caused four turnovers as the Seahawk defense compiled 18 takeaways.

The Wolverines rattled off 26 shots and senior goalkeeper Colleen Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) turned away eight shots in 53 minutes while and first-year Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) made two denials in the final seven minutes of the game.

The Seahawks will be back in action Saturday, April 14th when St. Mary's travels to Frostburg, Maryland to face Frostburg State University (4-9, 2-4 CAC) in conference action at 12:00 pm.
