St. Mary's Women's Lacrosse Wins Big on Senior Day

St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied her 100th career assist as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team posted a decisive 19-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the visiting Hood College Blazers Saturday afternoon to make it a memorable Senior Day.

With her fourth assist of the day on the Seahawks' 15th goal of the game, Parker picked up the century assist marker.  She now owns 183 career points on 83 goals and 100 assists in her three years as a Seahawk.

Parker finished the afternoon with a team-best five points on a goal and four assists while senior attacker Cailey Aburn (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll School) handed out a career-best five helpers.

St. Mary's (6-7, 2-3 CAC) could not miss in the first half as the Seahawks scored 11 goals on 20 shots taken in the first 30 minutes of the game en route to an 11-0 halftime advantage.

Three Seahawk players ended the afternoon with four points as senior attacker Lauren Bennett (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and junior midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) each notched three goals and an assist while first-year attacker Jenna Crutchfield (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) contributed two scores and two assists.

In the second half, St. Mary's reeled off five more unanswered goals for a 16-0 lead at 17:53 before Hood (2-12, 0-5 CAC) avoided the shutout with senior attacker Kati Vu's (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) 28th goal of the season at 16:18.  The Seahawks completed the game scoring with three more goals by Bennett and first-years Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and Megan Essman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill).

St. Mary's outshot the Blazers, 32 to 8, while registering a 28-16 margin in ground balls as Aburn scooped up a game-high four loose balls.  The Seahawks edged Hood in draw controls, 12 to 10, behind Parker's five draw controls.

The Seahawk goalies joined forces to make six saves and two ground balls.  Senior Colleen Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) had three stops in 20:41 while first-year Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) picked up three saves as well in 23:01 and first-year Kelly Shuman (Columbia, Md./Atholton) finished out the game.

Senior keeper Helene Butler (Fiskville, R.I./Scituate) had nine saves, two ground balls and one caused turnover in goal for Hood.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Tuesday, April 10 when St. Mary's travels to Dover, Delaware to take on Wesley College (6-7, 0-5 CAC) in conference action at 4:00 pm.
