Box Score Virginia Beach, Va. – Senior forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied seven points in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to a convincing 6-1 non-conference victory over host Virginia Wesleyan College Friday night.
Parker finished the contest with three goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal that brought her career total to 12 game-winners and equaled the school record set by Amy Skrickus '07.
Senior defender Ali McIntosh (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) added a goal and an assist while sophomore Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) dished two assists.
The Seahawks (3-0) owned a 2-0 lead at halftime as Parker had a hand in both goals. Parker scored off a Decker feed at 11:17 while junior midfielder Rachel Heiss (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) took a pass from Parker for her first goal of the season at 32:47.
Decker assisted on sophomore forward Olivia Edwards' (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) first goal of the season at 45:21. Parker then converted on a penalty stroke at 52:18 and then completed a pass from McIntosh at 54:39 to stretch the St. Mary's lead to 5-0.
McIntosh picked up the team's final tally with an unassisted goal at 57:53. Virginia Wesleyan (0-3) avoided the shutout at 62:45 as senior forward Courtney Pollard (Lebanon, N.H.) found the back of the cage.
St. Mary's controlled the game with a dominating 13-3 shot advantage as well as a 10-0 penalty corner margin, including a 7-0 mark in the second half.
Goalkeepers Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) and Shannon Flanagan (Crofton, Md./South River) split time in goal equally with Bishop making two saves in the first half. Junior Kirsten Olson (Springfield, Va.) registered five stops in the loss.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's faces Division II Limestone College at the National Training Center in the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Norfolk, Va. for non-conference action at 1:00 pm.
