Seahawk Women's Lacrosse Suffers Loss at No. 2 Salisbury

Salisbury, Md. – Four different players scored for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks dropped a 21-4 Capital Athletic Conference decision at No. 2 Salisbury University.

Salisbury (11-0, 3-0 CAC) opened up with an 8-0 run before St. Mary's (5-8, 1-2 CAC) rattled off three straight to cut the deficit to five at 5:10. First-years Maggie Wagner (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven), Brynn Miller (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Lizzie D'Agostaro (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) all found the back of the net for the Seahawks.

The Sea Gulls picked up two more goals en route to a 10-3 halftime advantage. Sophomore attackers Kara O'Rourke (Ellicott City, Md.) and Kate Haker (Westminster, Md.) paced Salisbury's offense with five points each as Haker collected three goals and two assists while O'Rourke tallied two goals and three helpers.

In the second half, Salisbury rolled to a 19-3 advantage at 8:05 before sophomore attacker Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) notched her fourth goal of the season off of senior attacker Emily Shafer's (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) team-leading 21st assist. The Sea Gulls tacked on two more in the 1:06 of the game for the game's final score.

First-year midfielder Shelby Newman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) scooped up half of St. Mary's eight ground balls while winning two of the team's seven draw controls. Defensively, sophomore Paige Miller (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) picked up two caused turnovers.

Sophomore Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) recorded seven saves and one ground ball in the first half while first-year Kayla Dunn (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) had five stops and one loose ball pick up in nearly 28 minutes of action. For Salisbury, junior Ashton Wheatley (Cambridge, Md./Salisbury School) registered four saves, five ground balls and four caused turnovers before sophomore Alyssa Harmke (Crofton, Md./Seton Keough) finished out the game with one save.

St. Mary's will look to turn around its two-game skid on Wednesday, April 10 when the Seahawks travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia to take on the University of Mary Washington in another conference match-up at 4:00 pm.
