St. Mary's Women's Lacrosse Falls Short to Dickinson

Box Score

Brooklandville, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team battled Dickinson College Saturday afternoon in a neutral site game at St. Paul's School. The Seahawks dropped to 0-2 on the season as Dickinson came away with a 10-6 non-conference win.

First-year midfielder Ali Moulis (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) tallied three points on two goals and an assist while junior attacker Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) added two goals to pace the team in their closest matchup with Dickinson since a 13-12 overtime win in 2011.

Sophomore midfielder Tori Poffenberger (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) put St. Mary's on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal at 23:42. The Red Devils then reeled off four straight to stake a 4-1 lead at 6:25 as first-year Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) picked up the hat trick. Moulis cut the deficit to two at halftime with her first goal of the season at 4:14.

Siebold finished the afternoon with four goals while sophomore midfielder Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md.) notched a hat trick.

Clancy found the back of the net for the first two goals of the second half before Moulis and Bishop scored the next two to keep it at a two-goal game. Dickinson doubled up its lead once again with two consecutive goals for an 8-4 advantage at 13:26. The Seahawks got one back at 12:38 as Bishop completed a pass from sophomore midfielder Shelby Newman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley).

The Red Devils netted two of the game's last three goals to seal the win and move to 2-0 on the young season.

Sophomore defender Lizzie D'Agostaro (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) paced the Seahawk defense with six ground balls while D'Agostaro and junior captain Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) each caused two turnovers.

Dickinson outshot St. Mary's, 29-17, and dominated the ground ball battle, 31-23. The Red Devils edged the visitors, 11-8, in draw controls.

Sophomore Kayla Dunn (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) turned away 13 shots while junior Jojo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md.) and first-year Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J.) combined for eight saves.

The Seahawks will look to notch their first win of 2014 on Wednesday, February 26th as St. Mary's travels to Westminster, Maryland to take on McDaniel College in a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m.
