Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team opened up their Spring Break action at the PTR Spring TennisFest Sunday morning with a tough 9-0 loss to NCAA Division II Kutztown University (3-1).
St. Mary's doubles team of seniors John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) took Kutztown's No. 2 tandem to the limit, coming out on the short end of a 9-7 loss. Sophomores Robert Bishop (Hollywood, Md./Great Mills) and Wyatt Paulishak (Frederick, Md./Middletown) also battled at No. 3 doubles, dropping a 9-7 decision.
Feighner almost claimed a set win at No. 3 singles as he fell 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 to junior Matthew Maguire (Centurion, South Africa).
All six Seahawks were able to take away at least one game from the Golden Bears.
St. Mary's (1-3) will be back on the court tomorrow morning as the Seahawks face Allegheny College at the Van der Meer Tennis Center at 8:30 a.m.
