Feighner, Gear Nab Points for Seahawk Men's Tennis

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team opened up the spring portion of their 2013-14 schedule with a non-conference match against Washington College Saturday afternoon. However, Washington came away with the 7-2 non-conference win over the Seahawks.

The Shoremen (2-1) swept all three doubles matches and then senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]) claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles for a 4-0 Washington lead.

Seniors John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) then helped St. Mary's (0-2) to cut Washington's lead in half. Feighner posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles before Gear rallied for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles over junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's).

Washington secured the match win behind first-year Corey Pippin's (Aberdeen, Md./New Covenant Christian) 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Wyatt Paulishak (Frederick, Md./Middletown) battled senior Hunter Scott (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) at No. 6 singles for the final point but fell 6-7 (5-7), 2-6.

The Seahawks will return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's travels to Towson, Maryland to take on Goucher College in a non-conference match at 2:30 p.m.
