St. Mary's Men's Tennis Rolls Past Goucher

Towson, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team picked up their first win of the 2013-14 campaign Sunday afternoon with a decisive 8-1 non-conference victory over Goucher College. St. Mary's (1-2) owned a 2-1 advantage after doubles play before sweeping all six singles matches.

Senior captain Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and sophomore Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster) picked up an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles before Gear went on to post a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and Hardesty earned a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 triumph at No. 2 singles.

Seniors John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles before Feighner notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles and Guzzone grabbed a straight-set triumph at No. 4 singles.

Sophomore Robert Bishop (Hollywood, Md./Great Mills) earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles while fellow classmate Wyatt Paulishak (Frederick, Md./Middletown) wrapped up the Seahawks' first win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.

St. Mary's will be back on the court on Thursday, March 13th when the Seahawks welcome Penn State Abington to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a non-conference match at 5:00 p.m.
