St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team saw their win streak halted at three as the Seahawks dropped a 15-11 Capital Athletic Conference loss to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.

Junior attacker Christy Bishop (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) collected her second consecutive four-goal performance and added an assist while sophomore midfielder Shelby Newman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) chipped in a goal and three helpers in St. Mary's first league loss of the season.

The Seahawks (7-6, 3-1 CAC) came roaring to go as sophomore midfielder Tori Poffenberger (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) scored the game's first two goals in just over a minute. Mary Washington then tallied three of the next four goals for a 3-3 draw at 17:27 behind two goals from junior attacker Corinne Wiederkehr (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River).

St. Mary's broke the draw with back-to-back goals both assisted by Newman for a two-goal lead at 8:42 before the Eagles had a 2-0 run of their own for a tied game once again at 5:09. The Seahawks headed into halftime with a 7-5 advantage as Bishop and Newman found the back of the net in the final 4:45 of the half.

Wiederkehr finished the afternoon as UMW's scoring leader as she paced all scorers with six goals and an assist while senior midfielder Katie Williams (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) contributed a goal and three helpers and senior attacker Jenna Petrucelli (Cranbury, N.J./Peddie) chipped in a hat trick.

Mary Washington (9-4, 3-2 CAC) took over in the second half, outscoring the Seahawks by a 10-4 margin. After first-year attacker Abbey Harrison (Easton, Md./Easton) netted the first goal of the second half to give SMCM an 8-5 lead at 28:15, the Eagles unleashed four in a row with Wiederkehr scoring three in the run to stake their first lead of the game at 21:03.

Bishop tied up the game at 18:19 but UMW responded by reeling six straight to break the game wide open, owning a 15-9 advantage with 4:10 remaining in the game. Bishop and Harrison finished off the scoring for the Seahawks.

Mary Washington edged the Seahawks in shots, 34-31, while St. Mary's posted a 14-12 margin in ground balls. The Eagles also claimed the upper hand in draw controls by a 15-13 edge. Sophomore goalie Kayla Dunn (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) finished the day with 12 saves and two ground balls while junior Taylor Paige (Esmont, Va./Monticello) made 15 stops to stay perfect between the pipes with a 4-0 mark.

The Seahawks will have another tough CAC matchup on Sunday, April 13th at 3:00 p.m. when No. 1 Salisbury University comes to Seahawk Stadium on Senior Day. Senior Sarah Harnish (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) will be honored prior to the start of Sunday's game.
