Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team split two matches with a win over The Catholic University of America and a loss to Stevenson University to conclude play at the Frostburg State University Spooktacular on Saturday.

The Seahawks (16-12, 5-4 CAC) took the Catholic Cardinals (17-16) in a three-set sweep for a victory early in the day, notching set scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-20.

Seahawk senior middle hitter Karlee Valliant (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) took control of the offense and led with eight kills for the match. Senior setter Grace Chao (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) facilitated the offense with 21 assists.

St. Mary's recorded 10 blocks for the match while junior Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) put up a good defensive front with three solo blocks. The defense was also led by first-year defensive specialist Marissa Dangler (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) who tallied a season-best 22 digs for the match.

The Seahawks next played Stevenson (26-7) but fell in three sets (16-25, 16-25, 15-25) as the Mustangs won their 13th straight match. Valliant led the offense again in this match with six kills. Chao and M. Graf would set up the offense, contributing a combined 21 assists.

Junior libero Carissa Hill (Lanham, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) directed the defense and contributed 16 digs to the match. Hill was trailed by senior captain Autumn Fisher (Hagerstown, Md./ North Hagerstown) who recorded nine digs.

"The team fought well today against Catholic and Stevenson. Marissa Dangler shined on defense and Meghan Kelly stepped up on the outside. Autumn Fisher was clutch for us at serving," said second-year head coach Jeremy Sands.

The Seahawks will be back on the court as the No. 4 seed in the first round of the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, hosting fifth-seeded Marymount (Va.) University in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center Arena on Tuesday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m.
