St. Mary's Women's Basketball Collects Win over Randolph

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – Three Seahawk starters scored in double figures as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team rolled to a 68-56 non-conference victory over the Randolph College Wildcats.

Sophomore guard Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James School) notched her second 20-point game of the season as Kline tallied 20 on 4-of-9 shooting from downtown while fellow classmate Olivia Nowlin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) chipped in season-bests of 14 points and three steals. Junior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) recorded her second double-double of the season with season-best 18 points and career-high 15 rebounds.

Randolph (0-1) opened up with a 2-0 lead at 9:44 of the first quarter on a basket by junior forward Korin Harris (Upper Marlboro, Md./Elizabeth Seton) but it was all St. Mary's after that. The Seahawks went on a 19-8 run to stake a 19-10 advantage at the end of the first stanza.

The Seahawks (2-1) continued to cruise in the second period as their advantage ballooned to 41-19 with 11 seconds remaining in the half. Kline and Haller paced all scorers at halftime with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Harris led Randolph with seven first-half points.

St. Mary's shot well over the first 20 minutes, connecting on 50-percent of its shots while the Wildcats made just 31-percent, including making only 1-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Wildcats began to chip away at the 22-point deficit and used a 21-11 run in the third quarter to close the gap to 52-40 with one period left. Randolph opened up the last stanza of play on an 11-3 run and pulled within 55-51 at 2:41. The Wildcats would get no closer as Nowlin dropped a three-point shot 20 seconds later and St. Mary's went 10-of-14 from the free throw line.

Harris and junior guard Jacqueline Hockman (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) each finished with 14 points for Randolph while sophomore guard Taylor Samuels (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) contributed 10. Harris also pulled down nine boards to help the Wildcats keep pace with St. Mary's as each hauled in 46 caroms.

St. Mary's won't be back on the hardwood until Wednesday, December 2 when the Seahawks open up Capital Athletic Conference action in Fredericksburg, Virginia against conference preseason favorite, University of Mary Washington, at 6:00 p.m.
