York, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team had their two-match win streak halted Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 setback to York College of Pennsylvania in Capital Athletic Conference action.
It was the first conference loss for the Seahawks (3-4, 1-1 CAC) this season while it was the first league win for York (7-2, 1-1 CAC).
St. Mary's avoided the doubles sweep when junior captains Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Robert Bishop (Hollywood, Md./Great Mills) posted a convincing 8-2 victory over senior Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and sophomore Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) at No. 1 doubles. The duo is now 2-3 on the season at No. 1.
Hardesty then notched the team's only singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of senior George Sosa (Wilmington, Del./Thomas McKean) at No. 1 singles. Winning his third straight, Hardesty is now 4-3 at No. 1.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow, March 22nd when St. Mary's faces Penn State Harrisburg in Middletown, Pennsylvania for another conference match. The match is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
