Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – The No. 20 St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team posted a 17-11 non-conference win over Roanoke College Saturday afternoon. Junior attacker Meg Gesner (Severna Park, Md./Severn) and midfielders Tori Poffenberger (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) and Ali Collie (Glen Arm, Md./Dulaney) led the way by combining for 11 points.

Gesner added her sixth hat trick of the season while Poffenberger and Collie each contributed two goals and two assists. Sophomores Lacey Brown (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Megan Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) each chipped in two goals in the Seahawks' third straight win.

Two Gesner goals and two Poffenberger assists helped St. Mary's tally a 3-1 lead at 24:18. Senior midfielder Meredith Bigelow's (Annapolis, Md.) second goal of the day cut the deficit to one at 23:34 before three different Seahawks found the back of the net, establishing a four-goal lead at 20:41. St. Mary's stretched the lead to 12-3 at halftime as they closed out the half on a 6-1 run.

Senior attacker Claire Feeney (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) paced Roanoke in the game with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists while Bigelow finished the afternoon with four goals as well and one helper. First-year attacker Katie Clements (Towson, Md./Roland Park Country) also notched multiple points for the Maroons with two goals and one assist.

The Maroons (3-5) ramped their scoring in the second half, starting the final 30 minutes with a 5-2 run to come within 14-8 at 20:26. Roanoke would get no closer the rest of the way but avoided the 10-goal differential and running clock.

Shots were equal at 27 each while St. Mary's collected a 24-16 margin in ground balls as senior captain Kayla Dunn (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) and junior defender Haley Sieglein (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) each scooped up three loose balls.

Roanoke came up with 18 of 30 draw controls as Feeney grabbed a game-best seven draws and Bigelow followed suit with five.

On the defensive end, senior captain Kate Somerville (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) caused three turnovers, picked up two ground balls, and had one draw control.

Dunn ended the day with eight saves while first-years Emma Blair (Salem, Va./Salem) and Victoria Smith (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) combined for six saves. Blair made one stop in the first 20 minutes while Smith came in relief and finished the game with five saves and two ground balls.
