Frederick, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Hood Blazers.
St. Mary's (Md.) 8, Hood 1
Doubles
- First-years Jonathan Gorel (Jessup, Md./Hammond) and Ethan Garren (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) remained unbeaten on the season as they topped sophomore Jordan Hahn (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and junior Conor Riggin (Sykesville, Md./Century), 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.
- Junior James Loftis (Annapolis, Md./Saint Andrews [Del.]) and first-year Ron Stith (Cheltenham, Md./Lackey) cruised to an 8-0 win over Hood's first-year Alex Beaumont (New Market, Md./Linganore) and senior Christian Woltz (Germantown, Md.) at third doubles.
Singles
- St. Mary's would sweep the competition in singles play, starting with Stith taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles for a 3-1 Seahawk lead.
- Gorel won his individual matchup at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3 over Hood's junior Alex Sexton (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa).
- In the No. 5 slot, junior captain Connor McKissick (Leonardtown, Md./ Leonardtown) would easily cruise to a victory, dropping only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Beaumont.
