Seahawk Men's Tennis Falls on the Road to Washington College

Chestertown, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 non-conference decision at Washington College Saturday afternoon. Washington, who ranks No. 20 in the Atlantic South region, handed the Seahawks their first shutout loss of the season.

Doubles

  • Washington College's Jake Sandler and Chris Salisbury came out strong against junior captain Connor McKissick (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and first-year Jonathan Gorel (Jessup, Md./Hammond), downing the Seahawks, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.
  • Junior captain James Loftis (Annapolis, Md./Saint Andrews [Del.]) and first-year Ethan Garren (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) fell 8-3 at No. 2 doubles while first-year Ron Stith (Cheltenham, Md./Lackey) and junior captain Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel) took an 8-1 setback at No. 3 doubles.

Singles

  • First-year Zach Talamonti (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) would come on in singles action and put up a hard-fought match at No. 6 singles. However, Talamonti would end up falling, 8-6, to Washington College's August Meriot.
  • Gorel, Garren, McKissick, Loftis, and Stith would all compete against the regionally-ranked Shoremen in singles but were unable to pull out any wins.
