Seahawk Men's Tennis Tops Penn State Harrisburg Saturday Afternoon

Middletown, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team (8-8, 2-4 CAC) won a Capital Athletic Conference road matchup against the Lions of Penn State Harrisburg (4-7, 0-4 CAC) Saturday afternoon, 8-1, strengthening their hold on the fifth and final CAC playoff spot.

Doubles

  • Junior captain James Loftis (Annapolis, Md./Saint Andrews [Del.]) and first-year Ethan Garren (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) moved to 7-6 as doubles partners, defeating Ryan McCurdy and John Parola, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. This was the duo's third straight win. 
  • First-year Ron Stith (Cheltenham, Md./Lackey) and junior captain Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel) continued their winning ways, posting an 8-2 victory over Benjamin Rusling and Austin Stehman at No. 3 doubles for their second consecutive victory.

Singles

  • Junior captain Connor McKissick (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) provided the most exciting match of the day by winning 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 at No. 2 singles. The win improved McKissick's dual match record to 9-7.
  • First-year Jack Brandenburg (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) won his third straight match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles while first-year Zach Talamonti (Falls Church, Va./George Mason), Garren, Stith, and Loftis all won their singles matchups in straight sets to help the Seahawks sweep singles action.
