St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior midfielder Caitlin Katchmar (Phoenix, Md./Hereford) notched her second career hat trick and junior goalkeeper Emma Brown (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) matched her career-high of 12 saves in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over third-ranked Washington and Lee University Wednesday afternoon. This was the home- and season-opener for the Seahawks.

How It Happened

• St. Mary's struck first but the Generals responded with two straight for a one-goal lead at 24:22. The Seahawks then strung together three in a row to jump out to a 4-2 advantage at 17:00. However, W & L scored four of the last five goals to stake a 6-5 lead at halftime.
• The home team opened up the second half with five unanswered goals in an eight-minute span to post a four-goal cushion at 20:31. Sophomore midfielder Kate Bartholomew (Galena, Md./Kent County) tallied two in the 5-0 Seahawk run.
• The Generals made it interesting in the final 12 minutes as they notched a man-up goal plus two man-down goals to pull within 10-9 with 1:19 remaining in the game. St. Mary's won the ensuing draw control but turned it over with 29 ticks on the clock. W & L fired off three shots – one hit the post while the other two were saved by Brown in the final 14 seconds.

Inside the Box Score

• Like Katchmar, Bartholomew also finished with three points (a career-best) on a career-high two goals and an assist while junior attacker Ali Collie (Glen Arm, Md./Dulaney) chipped in two goals as well.
• Katchmar grabbed a career-best four draw controls while senior defender Maribeth Anderson (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and sophomore midfielder Jodi Credit (Hunt Valley, Md./RPCS) each scooped up a game-best three ground balls.
• In her collegiate debut, first-year defender Francesca Ziccardi (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) caused a game-high three turnovers.
• W&L was led by Jess Castelo's game-best four points on three goals and an assist plus three ground balls while Kit McNiff came away with a game-best five draw controls. In goal, Hannah Wiltshire made nine saves in 52:58 minutes of action.
