ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -  The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team (5-2) hosted Haverford College (3-2) on Wednesday (Mar. 11) afternoon in non-conference action. The Seahawks used a dominant second half to defeat the Fords 16-10.

St. Mary's College - 16, Haverford - 10

How it happened:

  • The Seahawks got off to a slow start against the Fords. Haverford's Belle McMahon scored the first goal unassisted. Then, only a stupefying six seconds later, Haverford's Julia Manetta scored another goal, assisted by Olivia DiRienz.

  • The Seahawks would shake off the cobwebs and respond just over two minutes later with a Jayne Barkman goal, assisted by Alyssa Demski. However, just 75 seconds later, Haverford's Hailey Morris scored an unassisted goal, followed up by a Katherine Ference unassisted goal just under two minutes later.

  • The Seahawks would chip away at this deficit with Jayne Barkman scoring another assisted goal, this time with Lucy Gussio providing the assist. The Seahawks' deficit would become only one after Susanna Schmidt scored a goal; assisted by Kelly Emge, just fifty seconds later.

  • But Haverford was far from done. Just 23 seconds after Schmidt's goal, Hailey Morris would score an unassisted goal, then a minute later, Morris would score another goal, this time assisted by Julia Manetta. A free position shot from DiRienz just under two minutes later put Haverford up by four with just over half of the first half to go.

  • The Seahawks; however, would show their resilience when Kate Bartholomew scored a free position shot, then scoring another goal just thirty seconds later, this one assisted Lucy Gussio

  • Morris would respond by putting in another goal; assisted by Manetta two minutes after Bartholomew's second goal, but the Seahawks would score the final two goals before the half ended, cutting their deficit to just one.

  • The second half started slowly, with both teams scoring just one goal each in the first ten minutes, and it appeared as if the rest of the game would be a defensive battle.

  • However, just before the second half was halfway over, the Seahawks absolutely unloaded on Haverford by scoring four goals straight in the span of only two and a half minutes. At that point, the Seahawks regained almost complete control over the game.

  • Haverford would respond to the Seahawks' four goal flurry with Julia Pascarella putting in a free position shot with twelve minutes to go. At that point, Haverford was only down two.

  • However, the Seahawks would score the next four goals, putting the game well out of reach for Haverford after Erin Carmody put the Seahawks up by six with just under four and a half minutes to go. Haverford had no answer for any of these four straight goals.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Kate Bartholomew once again led in shots with nine, and somehow managed to score on every single one of her five shots on goal. She also led in draw controls by far by controlling a startling ten.

  • Kelly Emge led the team with a solid five assists, helping the team where they needed it the most.

  • Francesca Ziccardi led the team by picking up four ground balls.

  • Aimee Uibel earns her fifth win in net by saving twelve out of the twenty-one shots on her goal.
