Seahawks Open Fall Tennis Season at Catholic

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team opened up their fall 2021 season this afternoon (Sept 18) with Catholic University. The Cardinals just got by the Seahawks with a final score of 5-4.

St. Mary's College - 4, Catholic University - 5

Doubles

Catholic won the first and the third set of doubles over the Seahawks. Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel competed at the No. 1 spot for the Seahawks. They fell to Catholic 3-8. Ellie Walter and Georgia Kline also ended with a score of 3-8 competing at the No. 3 spot.
Sydney Anderson and Amber Manspeaker were able to edge the Cardinals at the No. 2 spot, 8-4.

Singles

Singles proved to be a power struggle, St. Mary's College and Catholic went 3-3 overall in doubles. Levit fell in No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3. Gorel played at No. 2 and came out on top over Catholic's Abigail Cassidy (6-2, 6-4). Anderson in the No. 3 spot fell to the Cardinals in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 1-6.
The Seahawks pulled out victories over the Cardinals in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Manspeaker competed at No. 4 while Walter competed at No. 5. Manspeaker beat Catholic's Hanna Scall, 6-3 and 6-0. Walter at No. 5 just got by in the first set against Catholic, 7-6, and closed out the match with a winning set of 6-2.
Giselle Harris played No. 6 singles against Catholic's Marisa Stambaugh. Stambaugh edged Harris 0-6 in the first set, but Stambaugh came back in the second set with a win, 6-2. Stambaugh just got by in the third set with a score of 5-7.
