Seahawks Women’s Swimming Wraps Up Undefeated Atlantic East Regular Season

SCRANTON, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team, the defending Atlantic East Conference Champions, posted an undefeated conference regular season Saturday afternoon with a 137.5-73.5 road victory over Marywood University. In just their second season in the Atlantic East, the Seahawks finished the regular season with a 6-0 league record and improved to 8-3 overall with the victory.
 
St. Mary's College had six swimmers earn multiple wins on its way to the dominant victory and a perfect conference record.
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks began the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200-medley relay. The foursome of senior captains Rileigh Krell (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) and Bailey Edgren (Canton, Conn./Canton), junior Christina Trnkus (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and sophomore Anna Kidd (Arbutus, Md./Mount de Sales) took first place in 2:00.00.
  • Kidd added two more victories in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.77 and the 100 freestyle in 56.12. She would've had a fourth win in the 200 individual medley, but St. Mary's College swam that event as an exhibition since the Seahawks had already won the meet.
  • Senior Leila McCloskey (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) tallied two individual victories as well, winning the 100 backstroke in 1:04.69 and the 50 freestyle in 26.76. McCloskey also anchored the second-place 200 medley relay team.
  • First-year Gabby DeCrisci (Fredericksburg, Va.) also notched a pair of individual wins as DeCrisci won the 1,000 freestyle in 12:51.18 as well as the 500 freestyle in 6:09.23.
  • In addition to the 200-medley relay win, Krell touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke in 2:22.21. She also placed second in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.35.
  • Edgren earned a second win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.96 while adding a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.36.
  • Trnkus picked up an individual win in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.79.
  • Senior Christina Bonass (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) collected three second place finishes as Bonass was on the second-place 200 medley relay and finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.23 and the 100 freestyle in 1:04.85.
  • Sophomore Julia Milner (Middletown, Md./Middletown) led the Seahawks in the 200 breaststroke with a second-place finish in 2:48.61 while taking second in the 1,000 freestyle in 13:16.31.
  • Junior Jazlyn Benitez (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) contributed to the second-place 200 medley relay and then placed third in the 200 backstroke in 2:35.45.
  • Sophomore Marissa Fields (Clements, Md./Chopticon) led off the second-place 200 medley relay and then came in third in the 50 freestyle in 29.41.
