NEWPORT NEWS, VA– The Seahawks opened the Coast to Coast Conference Championships with a podium appearance and three broken records. St. Mary's competed in six different events during the first day of championships; breaking records in the 60M hurdles, 60M dash and the distance medley relay. Ethan Carpenter earned a third place finish in the weight throw.
How it Happened
- Ethan Carpenter put the Seahawks on the podium today in the weight throw with a distance of 14.98 meters. Carpenter finished third overall of the 11 competitors. Teammates Chamarr Auber and Marion Lajara also competed in the weight throw today. Auber finished tenth with a distance of 8.77 meters. Lajara rounded out the events for the Seahawks with a throw of 8.60 meters and 11th place. Auber, Lajara and Carpenter will all go on to compete in the shot put tomorrow.

Alex Behzadi and Emmanuel Douge participated in the long jump for St. Mary's in the championship's opening day. Douge placed 13th of the 16 competitors with 5.50 meters. Behzadi clinched 15th place at 5.23 meters.

Behzadi broke his own previous record in the 60M hurdles today with a time of 9.75 seconds and earning ninth place. His previous record stood at 9.89 seconds.

Douge also went on to break one of his own records. Douge competed in the 60M dash where he shaved .11 seconds off his best time, setting the new record at 7.42. He came in ninth place.

Caleb Shankle and Tyler Wilson represented St. Mary's in the 5000M race today. Wilson earned 15th place of the 16 runners at a time of 17:24.18. Shankle came in a little over a minute later, crossing the finish line at 18:46.96.

William Christophel, Christian Oliverio, Nate Norris and Quentin Pastore worked together in the distance medley relay to break the record for the event. This team earned sixth place with a time of 11:31.80. The previous record stood at 12:03.14.

The Seahawks will go on to compete in the second and final day of the Coast To Coast Conference Championships tomorrow. The Men's Track and Field team will appear in eight more events over the course of the final day.
