Rivers broke two school records in the C2C Championship

Ten School Records Are Broken at Women’s Indoor Track and Field C2C Championship Meet

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Indoor Track and Field Team traveled to Newport News, Virginia to compete in the  Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. They were among five other teams to compete in the two-day Conference Championship including the hosting Captains of Christopher Newport University. 


How It Happened:

  • The Seahawks started their Indoor Championship showing on Friday afternoon as their women's jumpers had three top-ten finishers. In the Women's Long Jump, Chay'la Rivers placed seventh at 4.26 meters, Alana Thompson finished eighth at 4.12 meters, and Addie Ostendorf-Snell placed ninth at 4.05 meters. 

  • The school record for the Women's Weight Throw was blown by on Friday afternoon by Nayev Pumphrey as she placed third with a throw of 9.49 meters. Fladaina Bruno was close behind in fifth place throwing 9.24 meters. Olivia Magaletta and Morgan Marzec trailed behind in eighth and ninth place. 

  • Friday continued to be successful for the Seahawks as Lauren Sapp earned tenth place in the Women's 5000 Meter Run. This performance sets the school record. Sapp also broke her previously held 3000 Meter Run school record with a time of 11:13.63. This performance earned her eighth place overall. 

  • Chay'la Rivers broke her own school record in the Women's 60 Meter Dash with a time of 8.56. This performance earned her seventh place overall. Rivers also broke her previously held 200 Meter Dash record. She earned 12th overall with a time of 29.39. 

  • The Women's Distance Medley of Betsy Robey, Dina Jones, Brittney Douglas, and Ariana Lecouras notched a time of 14:07.83, setting a new school record. 

  • Saturday proved to be as successful as Friday, as Elise Kinyanjui broke the school record for Women's High Jump at 1.48 meters.

  • Brittney Douglas broke her own school record in the Women's 1 Mile Run with a time of 5:44.95 earning seventh place overall. Douglas continued her record-breaking streak in the 800 Meter Run. She placed fifth overall with a time of 2:30.88, breaking another one of her own school records. 

  • Three Seahawks placed in the Women's 400 Meter Run: Ariat Ojulu in seventh at 1:07.06, Elise Kinyanjui in eighth at 1:07.15, and Dina Jones in 13th at 1:15.97. 

  • The quartet of Ariat Ojulu, Elise Kinyanjui, Alana Thompson, and Brittney Douglas broke the school record for the Women's 4x400 running 4:30.29 and placing fifth overall. 

 

In regards to her team's performance, Head Coach Reava Potter stated, "[She does] feel like we did well and [is] excited to see how we do during the outdoor season".
