Seahawk Women's Tennis Soars Over Stevenson

St. Mary's City, MD. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Tennis team took on the Mustangs of Stevenson University in their first home match of the spring season. The Seahawks were able to get the better of the Mustangs, notching a winning score of 7-2.

How It Happened:

Doubles

  • The Seahawks took two out of the three doubles matches. 

  • In the number one spot, senior captain Hannah Gorel and sophomore Diana Levit dropped their match 8-6.

  • While the doubles didn't start off strong for the Seahawks, Amber Manspeaker and Sydney Anderson got the ball rolling in the number two spot. They took down the Mustangs 8-1.  

  • In the swing match, Giselle Harris and Ellie Walter gave the Seahawks a 2-1 advantage by coming up with a 8-6 victory in the number three spot. 

Singles

  • The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team took five out of the six single matches. 

  • Diana Levit fought hard in her first set but fell short 6-7-4. The Mustangs came out on top winning the second set 6-3. 

  • Hannah Gorel took two sets in the number two spot with ease, winning 6-3, 6-2. 

  • Amber Manspeaker kept the momentum going in the number three match, winning both sets with a score of 6-1.

  • Sydney Anderson earned a point for the team in just two sets 6-3, 6-2. 

  • Giselle Harris refused to break the Seahawk's winning streak in the number five spot by winning in two sets 6-4, 6-1. 

  • Ellie Walter competed in the number six and her two-set wins of 6-2, 6-4 sealed the win for the Seahawks. 

Up Next:

The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, March 4th as they host the Gophers of Goucher College here at St. Mary's College of Maryland.
