The St. Mary's Women's Track and Field Team Host Seahawk Invitational

St. Mary's City, MD - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Outdoor Track and Field Team hosted the second annual Seahawk Invitational. The Seahawks hosted seven other teams at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. Despite several weather delays due to lightning and inhibiting rain conditions, the Seahawks brought a strong performance to their home track. 

 

How It Happened:

  • The squad of Addie Ostendorf-Snell, Chay'la Rivers, Tray Mobray, and Alana Thompson started the morning off strong by breaking the school record for the Women's 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 54.08. This performance earned them fourth place overall. 

  • Betsy Robey earned second place overall in the Women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 15:00.09. 

  • Morgan Marzec's Hammer Throw performance of 24.61 meters earned her third place overall.

  • Elise Kinyanjui earned first place and set the school record for Women's High Jump at a height of 1.53 meters.

  • The Women's 400 Meter Dash proved to be successful for the Seahawks, as they earned four top-ten finishes. Savannah Owens took fourth place with a time of 1:05.53, Alana Thompson took sixth at 1:07.04, Dina Jones in eighth at 1:10.20, and Chloe Tolson in ninth at 1:19.25.

  • Brittney Douglas claimed yet another school record at today's track meet. Douglas took third place overall in the Women's 800 Meter Run and the school record with a time of 2:25.93. Close behind her was Pamela Angel-Aguilar in sixth place at 2:53.91.

  • Alana Thompson earned sixth place overall in the Women's Long Jump with a distance of 4.58 meters.

  • The Seahawks had three top-ten finishers in the Women's Shot Put. Fladaina Bruno came in fifth place throwing 8.46 meters. Behind her was Morgan Marzec in eighth place at 8.12 meters and Amira Whitaker in ninth at 8.02 meters.

  • Chay'la Rivers earned fifth place in the Women's 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.26. This performance breaks the school record in the 100 Meter Dash. Chay'la Rivers continued on later in the day to set a school record. Rivers set the school record in the Women's Triple Jump. Rivers also earned sixth place overall in the Women's 200 Meter Dash. 

  • Dina Jones earned third place overall in the Women's 400 Meter Hurdles. 

  • The Seahawks notched the top-three places in the Women's 5000 Meter Run this afternoon. Lauren Sapp came in first place with a time of 19:39.63. Close behind her in second place was Ariana Lecouras at 22:14.57. In third place was Stacie Lally at 23:48.29.

 

Up Next:

The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, April 15th as they travel to West Chester Pennsylvania to compete in the Bill Butler Invitational. This meet is hosted by the Rams of West Chester University.
