SALISBURY, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming ended 2024 with a dual meet at Salisbury University Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7). St. Mary's College (7-5) dropped a 167-65 non-conference decision to the host Sea Gulls (5-0).
Sophomore
Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) paced the Seahawks at the meet with two second-place finishes and one third-place finish in the short course meters Maggs Center Pool Natatorium. Young took second in the 100-freestyle in 1:01.70 as well as the 50-freestyle in 28.10. She also added a fifth-place finish in the 50-backstroke in 34.52.
Sophomore
Kelsie Miller (Potomac, Md./Churchill) collected a second-place finish in the 50-butterfly in 30.35 and then notched a bronze in the 50-freestyle in 28.42.
Miller contributed to the second-place 400-medley relay, swimming the third leg along with sophomore
Kaitlyn Soldon (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) and first-years
Ella Malzahn (Durham, N.C./Jordan) and
Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) to finish the race in 5:01.49.
Soldon picked up an individual silver in the 100-butterfly, taking second in 1:19.49, while Malzahn came in third in 1:20.43 and first-year
Jesse Slingluff (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) posted a fourth-place finish in 1:24.20. Soldon also went fifth in the 50-butterfly in 34.61.
In the 800-freestyle relay, the Seahawks notched a silver medal in 10:14.56 behind the efforts of first-years
Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and
Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone), Malzahn, and junior captain
Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard).
Goulet earned another silver in the 100-backstroke in 1:16.83 while first-year
Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) claimed third in 1:24.25. Goulet also added a fourth-place finish in the 400-freestyle in 4:59.98.
Junior
Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) placed second in the 100-breaststroke in 1:34.29 and fifth in the 50-breaststroke in 41.39. First-year
Abigail Chappell (Waynesboro, Pa./St. Maria Goretti Catholic) took third in the 100-breaststroke in 1:46.61.
The foursome of Willey, Young, Cartwright, and Judge touched up in 1:59.24 in the 200-freestyle relay for third place. Judge led SMCM in the 50-breaststroke with a fourth-place finish in 39.73 while Malzahn notched the highest team finish in the 100-individual medley, coming in fourth in 1:22.82.
