LANDOVER, Md. – First-year
Ty Tindal (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Saints Classical) led the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's indoor track & field team to a second-place finish at the inaugural United East Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships Monday (Feb. 26).
St. Mary's College finished second in the seven-team field with 121.5 points as the Seahawks notched 13 personal records and seven school records.
Tindal garnered United East Rookie of the Year honors after medaling in five events and registering three school records while senior
Quentin Pastore (Towson, Md./Towson) picked up the Elite 20 Award.
How It Happened
- Tindal captured the 60m dash with a school record and personal-best time of 6.98 while first-year Collin Fitzgerald (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) medaled as well with a second-place finish in personal-best time of 7.02. Tindal broke Fitzgerald's record of 7.17 set on January 20.
- Junior captain Michael Wade (Woodstock, Md./Marriotts Ridge) claimed the top spot in the 3000m run with a school record and personal record of 8:52.42 while first-year Noah Fisher (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) made the podium with an eighth-place finish in 10:30.76. Wade knocked off more than eight seconds from his own school record of 9:00.81 from February 18, 2023.
- Wade notched a second gold medal in the 5000m run with a time of 16:19.32 while three other Seahawks reached the podium. Pastore placed fifth in 17:49.09 followed by sophomore captain Kelly Byrne (Rockville, Md./Rockville) in sixth in 17:50.91 and junior Patton Harbourt (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) in eighth with a personal record of 18:21.00.
- Fitzgerald claimed a second silver medal in the 200m dash with a school record and personal-record of 22.51 while Tindal reached the podium with a fourth-place finish in 22.77. This time around, Fitzgerald knocked off Tindal's record of 22.62 from January 12. Additionally, senior captain Emmanuel Douge (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) ran a season-best time of 23.68 to place ninth.
- Sophomore captain Zack Kralec (Monkton, Md./Hereford) garnered a silver medal in the pole vault with a height of 4.20m to match his school record while Fisher notched a fifth-place finish with a height of 2.75m.
- Tindal earned a silver medal in the long jump with 6.26m while sophomore Dominant Turner (Richmond, Va./Walker Governor's School) posted a personal record of 5.69m for ninth place.
- Tindal collected a bronze medal in the 60m hurdles as he clocked a school and personal record of 8.69 while first-year Aaron Morales (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) finished sixth in 10.13. Tindal shaved off 0.20 from his own record of 8.89 set on February 3.
- The foursome of first-year Mason Layne (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), junior captain Nate Norris (Owings, Md./Northern), Douge, and Tindal ran a school record and season-best time of 3:34.57 to tally a third-place finish. They beat the previous school record by 0.08 seconds.
- Tindal earned a third bronze medal in the high jump as he tied for third with a school and personal record height of 1.77m. He broke the three-year old mark of 1.73m set by Alex Behzadi '22 on December 23, 2021.
- Two Seahawks reached the podium in the 400m dash as Layne finished fourth with a personal-record of 53.02 while Douge placed sixth with a personal-record of 53.10.
- Wade picked up a fourth-place finish in the 1-mile run in 4:40.06 while Pastore clocked a personal-record of 4:40.97 for fifth place. In addition, first-year Isaiah Ferebee (Upper Marlboro, Md.) ran a personal-record of 5:00.34 for 11th place.
- The quartet of first-year Jake Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep), junior Zane Obi (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard), and first-years Markell Blake (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Saints Classical) and Bryce Webster (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) picked up a fifth-place finish in the distance medley in 12:22.86.
- Robey came in 10th in the 800m run in 2:07.82 while Norris finished 14th with a season-best time of 2:11.65.
- First-year Doel Nkalo (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) placed 15th in the weight throw with a throw of 8.79m while picking up 22nd in the shot put with a throw of 7.88m.
