LATHAM, N.Y. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's cross country team had five members earn All-United East Conference honors following their performance at the 2025 United East Conference Men's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 at Penn State Brandywine.
First-year
Brandon Smoot (Hanover, Md./DeMatha Catholic) and senior
Kelly Byrne (Rockville, Md./Rockville) led the five-person contingent with First Team All-United East nods as the duo placed in the Top 9 at championships.
Smooth placed fifth out of 85 runners as he completed the 8K course in 28:47.30 while Byrne finished eighth in 30:07.59 to end his Seahawk career with his first-ever all-conference award.
Junior
Noah Fisher (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) and sophomores
Blake Carberry (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) and
Jack Kuta (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) all garnered Second Team honors with their Top 18 finishes.
Fisher collected his first all-conference honor after coming in 11th place in 30:32.77 while Carberry picked up his second straight postseason award after making the Third Team last season. Carberry jumped 13 spots from 28th in 2024 to 15th this season in 30:52.98.
This is Kuta's second straight appearance on the Second Team as he finished the race in 16th in 31:00.15.
The quintet helped St. Mary's College to a second-place finish for the second straight season, totaling 55 points in the 10-team field.
The Seahawks will be back in action this Saturday, Nov. 15 at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. Racing is slated to start at 11 am.
