Seahawks Women’s Swimming Finishes Fifth at Yellow Jacket Invitational

HAMPTON, Va. – Junior Kelsie Miller (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) captured the 100-butterfly as St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming claimed the fifth spot at the eight-team Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College at Hampton Aquaplex Nov. 21-23. St. Mary's College tallied 302.5 points and 10 top-ten finishes for fifth place.
 
Salisbury University claimed the team title with 1320 points followed by Washington & Lee University in second place with 1157 points. The Catholic University of America rounded out the Top 3 with 586.5 points, edging host Randolph-Macon College by 1.5 points.
 
How It Happened
Sessions I and II (Friday, Nov. 21)
  • The highest finish of the night came from junior Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) who tied for third in the 50-freestyle in 24.41. Sophomore Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) tied for 19th in 25.33.
  • Young, Willey, sophomore Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone), and Miller combined for a seventh-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay in 1:40.64.
  • Miller took second in the consolation finals of the 200-individual medley in 2:12.16 for 10th overall.
  • Friday night concluded with sophomore Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), junior Natalie Canham (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur), first-year Liv Macaluso (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth), and Cartwright taking 10th in the 400-medley relay in 4:22.36.
 
Sessions III and IV (Saturday, Nov. 22)
  • Miller notched SMCM's lone gold medal of the weekend as she touched the wall first in the 100-butterfly in 56.19.
  • The foursome of senior captain Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), Young, Willey, and Miller put forth a seventh-place finish in the 800-freestyle relay in 8:14.84.
  • Young, Canham, Miller and Willey earned an eighth-place finish in the 200-medley relay in 1:51.87.
  • Judge notched a 14th-place finish in the 400-individual medley in 4:57.54 while sophomore Jesse Slingluff (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) came in 15th in 5:00.85.
  • Young paced the Seahawks in the 200-freestyle, coming in 17th in 2:01.01.
  • Canham collected the team's best finish in the 100-breastroke in 1:14.13.
  • Bianco added a 21st-place finish in the 100-backstroke in 1:08.47.
 
Sessions V and VI (Sunday, Nov. 23)
  • Young posted a fifth-place finish in the 100-freestyle in 54.07 while Willey placed 17th in 55.56.
  • Miller picked up a sixth-place finish in the 200-butterfly in 2:12.03.
  • Miller, Willey, Cartwright, and Young came together for a ninth-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:44.58.
  • Canham tallied a 17th-place finish in the 200-breaststroke in 2:39.46.
  • Judge notched an 18th-place finish in the 1650-freestyle in 19:09.15.
  • In the 200-backstroke, Macaluso finished 22nd in 2:23.27.
