Seahawks Women’s Swimming Victorious on Senior Day

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Senior captain Emelina Grimm (Rockville, Md./Magruder) enjoyed a memorable Senior Day as St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming posted a non-conference win in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1). St. Mary's College (11-6) notched a 150-105 triumph over Southern Virginia University (3-5).
 
Junior captain Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and sophomores Kelsie Miller (Potomac, Md./Churchill) and Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) paced the Seahawks in the win with three gold medals each.
 
Judge captured the 200-butterfly in 2:29.47 followed by first-year Jesse Slingluff (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) in second in 2:38.12. Judge's second victory came in the 500-freestyle as she clocked a 5:39.66 while first-year Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) finished third in 5:59.40.
 
Miller led a 1-2 finish in the 200-freestyle, touching the pad first in 2:06.21 and followed by Cartwright in second in 2:10.14. Miller then picked up a win in the 100-butterfly in 1:00.36 before anchoring the winning 200-freestyle relay (1:43.62) alongside Young, first-year Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills), and Judge.
 
Young earned a first-place finish in the 100-backstroke in 1:03.95 while Willey came in third in 1:08.30. Young also notched a win in the 100-freestyle in 55.65 while Miller took third in 56.29.
 
First-year Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) claimed first place in the 1000-freestyle in 11:50.48 while Slingluff took top honors in the 200-individual medley in 2:29.70 followed by first-year Ella Malzahn (Durham, N.C./Jordan) in second in 2:31.57.
 
The foursome of Young, Judge, sophomore Kaitlyn Soldon (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run), and Willey placed second in the 200-medley relay in 2:00.35.
 
Malzahn led SMCM in the 100-breaststroke with a second-place finish in 1:17.33 while junior Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) came in third in 1:18.90. Malzahn added another second-place finish in the 200-breaststroke in 2:48.37.
 
Willey went second in the 50-freestyle in 26.37 while Goulet finished third in 27.83. In her final regular-season meet as a Seahawk, Grimm tallied a second-place finish in the 200-backstroke in 2:38.47 while first-year Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) was third in 2:42.45.
