Men's Tennis Wins Against Penn State Behrend at PTR Spring Tennis Fest

Box Score Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team travelled down to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to take part in the PTR Spring Tennis Fest.  The Seahawks competed against Penn State Behrend at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center, winning against the Lions 4-3.
 
How It Happened:
Doubles
  • Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) and Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) competed in the No. 1 doubles match for the Seahawks. Rohr and Nelson beat the Lions duo 6-2
  • Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) and Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) fell to the Lions in the No. 2 spot 6-1.
  • The Seahawks No.3 double tandem featured Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) and Hudson Christensen (Annapolis, Md./ St. Mary's). Lyman and Christensen dropped the match 6-2.
Singles 
  • Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) won the match in two sets in the No. 1 singles match, winning 6-4, 6-3.
  • Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) competed in the No. 2 match, winning in two sets.  Esztergomi comfortably won 6-3, 6-1.
  • Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) competed in the No. 3 spot, winning in three sets after a close first set.  Nelson fell in the first set 7-6, with the extra point going to the Lions after dropping the tiebreak 7-2. Nelson rallied back in the next set winning 6-2.  The third set Super Tiebreak went to Nelson, easily defeating the Lions 10-4.
  • Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) fell in three sets in the No. 4 matchup, dropping the first set 6-4.  Hand came back for a win in the second set 7-6, after winning the tiebreak point 8-6.  Hand then fell in the third set Super Tiebreak 10-7.
  • Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) won both sets in action in the No. 5 match. Lyman defeated the Lions 7-5 in both sets.
  • Devon Gorel (Jessup, Md./ Hammond) concluded the singles matches for the Seahawks in the No. 6 spot, but the matchup was unable to complete the third set Super Tiebreak due to lighting issues. Gorel won the first set 7-5 in a win-by-two, then dropped the second set 6-4.
