MEDIA, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's cross country team got an opportunity to get an early look at the 8K course for the 2025 United East Conference Championship Friday evening (Sept. 12). St. Mary's College collected a fourth-place finish overall in the 11-team field with 93 points while finishing third among its league counterparts.
Penn State Berks took first in the team standings with 49 points followed by Penn College, the defending United East champion, in second with 74 points. Williamson College of the Trades rounded out the Top 3 with 93 points as well. Williamson's
Chase Ely captured the individual title as Ely won the race in 27:05.11.
How It Happened
- For the second straight week, first-year Brandon Smoot (Hanover, Md./DeMatha) was the first Seahawk to cross the finish line as Smoot came in seventh out of 100 runners with a personal-best 29:32.52. Among the conference runners, Smoot finished fifth.
- Crossing the finish line next for SMCM was senior Kelly Byrne (Rockville, Md./Rockville). Byrne placed ninth in 29:45.79.
- Sophomore Blake Carberry (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) was the team's third scorer as Carberry finished 19th in 32:02.82.
- Junior Noah Fisher (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) crossed the finish line fourth for St. Mary's College for the second straight week, notching a 26th-place finish in 32:49.42.
- Sophomore Jack Kuta (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) scored for the Seahawks for the second straight week as Kuta crossed the finish line in 34:18.96 for 38th.
- First-year Cooper Breakey (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) did not score for SMCM but registered a personal-best 38:11.26 as Breakey knocked off 19 seconds.
- First-year Jax Hansen (Lothian, Md./Southern) also set a personal record this evening with a 39:25.05, shaving off more than five minutes.
