St. Mary’s College Men’s Tennis Falls at Catholic

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team opened the 2025-26 campaign in Washington, D.C. Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13). St. Mary's College (0-1) dropped a 7-0 decision to The Catholic University of America (3-0).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
  • Catholic swept all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
  • Senior Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and sophomore Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./Sherwood) battled at No. 1 doubles, giving the Cardinals their narrowest margin of victory in a 6-3 loss for the Seahawks.
 
SINGLES
  • Sophomore Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) put up quite the fight at No. 3 singles against Henry Ogden, falling 7-5, 6-2.
  • First-year Aidan Cron (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) made his collegiate debut and forced a tiebreaker at No. 4 singles as Stefano Gasasira captured the first set 6-2 before Cron won the second set, 6-3. Gasasira would outlast Cron, 11-9, in the tiebreaker for the match triumph.
  • First-year Nate Willoughby (Edgewater, Md./South River) also made his collegiate debut, falling 0-6, 2-6 at No. 5 singles.
