ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior
Kelsie Miller (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) and sophomore
Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) each tallied four wins as St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming closed out the Atlantic East Conference regular season Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17). St. Mary's College (11-4, 4-1 AEC) notched a 166.5-72.5 victory over Immaculata University (4-4, 2-3 AEC) as the Seahawks claimed wins in all but one event to give the seniors a day to remember.
Before the meet got underway, SMCM recognized its four seniors – team captains
Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and
Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck),
Bella Ramirez (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), and
Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) – for their seasons of dedication and leadership to the program.
How It Happened
- Miller led St. Mary's College with three individual wins as she touched the wall first in the 200-butterfly (2:16.06), the 100-butterfly (1:00.42), and the 200-individual medley (2:27.28).
- Miller swam the third leg on the winning 200-medley relay (1:58.39) along with Young, Judge, and sophomore Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills).
- Cartwright's three individual victories came in the 200-freestyle (2:07.00), the 100-freestyle (59.10), and the 500-freestyle (5:42.71).
- Cartwright led off the victorious 200-freestyle relay (1:42.92) along with sophomores Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Willey.
- Young picked up a pair of individual wins in the 100-breaststroke in 1:15.43 and the 50-freestyle 26.20.
- Judge touched the wall first in the 200-breaststroke in 2:45.11 while going second in the 100-breaststroke (1:17.08) and third in the 50-freestyle (27.71).
- Goulet captured the first individual event of the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 1000-freestyle in 12:09.43 while placing second in the 500-freestyle in 5:59.77.
- First-year Liv Macaluso (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) notched a first-place finish of her own as well in the 100-backstroke in 1:09.67 while leading the Seahawks in the 200-backstroke with a second-place finish (2:31.30) and taking third in the 100-butterfly (1:07.35).
- Willey added a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-freestyle (2:15.21) and the 100-freestyle (1:01.95) while Bianco collected third place in the 100-backstroke (1:15.17).
- In her final regular-season home meet, Pass earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-breaststroke (1:21.83) and the 200-breaststroke (3:02.34).
