St. Mary’s College Wraps Up Fall Season at Rose Bowl

LONG BEACH, CALIF. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland open sailing team officially concluded the fall portion of their 2025-26 campaign Sunday (Jan. 4) at the 41st Annual Rose Bowl hosted by the University of Southern California and the U.S. Sailing Center. This year's Rose Bowl featured 24 collegiate teams.
 
St. Mary's College finished the two-day regatta ninth in the 24-team field with a score of 109. Brown University claimed the top honor with a score of 42 while Boston College (47) and Tulane University (80) rounded out the top three.
 
SATURDAY ACTION
The Seahawks found themselves in sixth place following the first day of racing. SMCM tallied a combined total of 66 to be four points behind fifth-place Roger Williams University and three points ahead of seventh-place Santa Barbara City College.
 
Junior skipper Nathan Jensen (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and senior captain Brooke Bertrand (Costa Mesa, Calif./Orange Coast College) claimed the third spot in Division A with a Saturday total of 15, five points behind first-place Brown University. In four races, Jensen and Bertrand won Race 1A and then finished fourth in the next two.
 
In Division B, junior skipper Lina Carper (Carlsbad, Calif./Coronado) and first-year crew Cash Espinoza (Newport Harbor) and Lauren Choi collected a total of 51 to land 14th after one day of competition. Espinoza served as crew in Races 1B and 2B while Choi crewed the next two races.
 
SUNDAY RACING
Following Sunday action, Jensen and Bertrand finished fourth in Division A with a score of 33, one point behind third-place Tulane. The duo took eighth and 10th in the final two races of the weekend, respectively.
 
Carper and Choi worked together in Races 5B and 6B, moving up one spot to 13th with 76 points in the final Division B standings.
