David Shines as SMCM Men’s Indoor Track & Field Starts New Year at Spartan Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – First-year Solomon David (Stephen Decatur) broke the triple jump record as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's indoor track & field team opened 2026 at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Friday (Jan. 9). Additionally, five St. Mary's College athletes earned personal-best marks while David qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships (Mar. 6-7) in the triple jump.
 
How It Happened
  • David notched St. Mary's College's highest finish of the day as he came in fifth in the triple jump with a school record distance of 13.72m. He displaced the previous school record of 11.79m set by Zack Kralec '26 at the SU Invite on Feb. 15, 2025.
  • First-year Andre Warren (Baltimore Polytechnic) picked up an eighth-place finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.91.
  • The foursome of first-year Cooper Breakey (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley), sophomore Pierson Hogue (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), first-year Brandon Smoot (Hanover, Md./DeMatha), and sophomore Blake Carberry (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) earned an 11th-place finish in the distance medley relay.
  • Junior Collin Fitzgerald (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) clocked an indoor personal-best 52.10 in the 400m dash for 19th place while going 7.33 in the 60m dash for 38th.
  • Senior Doel Nkalo (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mills) posted a 19th-place finish in the weight throw with 10.72m.
  • Carberry added a 26th-place finish in the 800m run with an indoor personal-best 2:10.90.
  • Smoot registered a 4:51.20 in the one-mile run for 29th place.
  • Sophomore Jack Kuta (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) tallied a 30th-place finish in the 3000m run with a personal-best 10:55.44.
  • First-year Albert Morris (Western Tech) collected a 31st-place finish in the shot put with 9.42m.
  • Senior Jaedon Aso (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) ran a personal-best 24.21 in the 200m dash for 56th place.
