Young Notches Conference and Meet Record as Seahawks Women’s Swimming Continues at Atlantic East Championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Senior Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) took down the conference and meet record in the 50-freestyle as St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming concluded action on the second day of the 2026 Atlantic East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday (Feb. 13) at the Aquatics Center on the St. Mary's City campus.
 
50 Freestyle
Young entered the finals of the 50-freestyle as the top seed and she finished on top once again, defending her title with a conference and meet record of 23.94. She broke fellow teammate, junior Kelsie Miller's (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) conference and meet mark of 24.11 from Feb. 16, 2024. Young just missed the school record of 23.52 set by Brie McDowell '09 in 2009 by 0.42 seconds.
 
Sophomore Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) claimed a fourth-place finish in 25.44 while sophomore Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) captured the consolation final in 26.79 for ninth overall. Senior captain Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) came in 11th in 27.61 followed by first-year Carolina Saravia (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) in 12th in 27.90.
 
500 Freestyle
The meet began with the 500-freestyle and St. Mary's College was led by senior captain Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), who finished third in 5:25.33. Sophomore Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) placed fourth in 5:31.71 while sophomore Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) took seventh in 5:42.12.
 
200 Individual Medley
Following a 10-minute break, Miller went on to defend her title in the 200-individual medley for the third consecutive year as she touched the wall first in 2:08.31. This is the sixth championship meet in a row that a Seahawk has claimed the top spot in the 200 IM as Anna Kidd '24 won the event between 2021 and 2023.
 
Sophomore Jesse Slingluff (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) reached the podium with a sixth-place finish in 2:21.85 while first-year Lilly Quill (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) went 11th in 2:34.96 and junior Kaarli Lutz (Fort Washington, Md./Bishop McNamara) was 12th in 2:53.96.
 
200 Freestyle Relay
SMCM placed second in the 200-freestyle relay in 1:40.18 behind the efforts of Young, Goulet, Willey, and Cartwright.
 
Inside the Meet
Six (6) of the 12 St. Mary's College swimmers who competed today either in the preliminaries and/or the finals went lifetime bests. Additionally, seven Seahawks reached the podium, including finishing the second night of championship competition with two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.
 
SMCM, the defending conference champion, continued to close the gap on Marywood University as St. Mary's College increased its point total to 256 to remain in second place, three points out of the top spot. Marywood has a narrow hold on first place with 258 points while Marymount (Va.) University sits in third with 242 points. Rounding out the top six are Immaculata University (154), Cedar Crest College (110), and Gallaudet University (86).
