Seahawks Men’s Indoor Track & Field Repeat as United East Champions

LANDOVER, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's indoor track & field team repeated as the United East Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field champions after winning six events and notching 167 points Friday (Feb. 27). Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex served as the host site for the 2026 United East indoor championships.
 
St. Mary's College took the top spot in the five-team field while Penn State Harrisburg came in second with 150 points. Lancaster Bible College went third with 104 points followed by Gallaudet University in fourth with 53 points and Carlow University in fifth with eight points.
 
The Seahawks tallied 17 All-United East awards while Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Reava Potter picked up her first-ever United East Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honor. Additionally, first-year Solomon David (Stephen Decatur) garnered both the United East Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and United East Men's Rookie of the Year awards.
 
SMCM set three school records as well as 18 personal-best marks and 10 season-best times.
 
How It Happened
  • Senior Nicholas Haylock (Odenton, Md./Meade) captured the 60m hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.79 while David took second with a personal-best time of 8.88.
  • Sophomore Moses McRae (Philadelphia, Pa./Kents Hill (Maine)) led a 1-2 finish in the 400m as McRae won the event in 52.65. Senior Mason Layne (Taneytown, Md./FSK) placed second with a season-best time of 52.18. Junior Collin Fitzgerald (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) finished fourth in 53.04.
  • David posted a school record and personal-best distance of 14.02m in the triple jump to win it while senior Zack Kralec (Monkton, Md./Hereford) came in fifth with a personal-best of 12.22m.
  • David won the high jump as well with a height of 1.87m.
  • The foursome of Haylock, Layne, Fitzgerald, and McRae clocked a school record 3:33.23 to claim first in the 4x400m relay.
  • Kralec earned a first-place finish in the pole vault with a school record height of 4.70m.
  • Senior Kelly Bryne (Rockville, Md./Rockville) finished second in the 3000m with a personal-best time of 9:37.21 while sophomore Blake Carberry (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) placed third with a season-best time of 10:04.05. Sophomore Jack Kuta (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) took fourth with a personal-best time of 10:12.09 while junior Noah Fisher (Union Bridge, Md./FSK) went fifth with a personal-best time of 10:12.31.
  • Junior Jake Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep) garnered a second-place finish in the 800m in 2:06.83 while first-year Cooper Breakey (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) came in sixth with a season-best time of 2:13.62.
  • Fitzgerald took second in the 200m 22.85 while McRae went fifth in 23.59. Haylock added a sixth-place finish with a season-best time of 23.61.
  • Robey, sophomore Jonathan Howell (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus), Breakey, and Fisher came together for a second-place finish in the distance medley relay in 12:29.81.
  • David notched a silver medal in the long jump with a season-best 6.38m.
  • Byrne collected a third-place finish in the 5000m in 17:09.54 while Kuta crossed the finish line in sixth with a personal-best time of 18:24.10.
  • Haylock went third in the 60m dash in a season-best 7.12 while senior Jaedon Aso (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) posted a personal-best 7.29 for fourth place.
  • Robey took third in the one-mile run with a personal-best 4:53.06 while Byrne finished fourth in 4:55.86. Junior Bryce Webster (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) notched a fifth-place finish in 4:58.20.
  • Junior Doel Nkalo (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) placed seventh in the weight throw with a personal-best 11.35m.
  • First-year Albert Morris came in 15th in the shot put with 9.53m.
