LATHAM, N.Y. – Senior
Gina Jaffurs (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team was selected as both the United East Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. Jaffurs, who is earning her first career weekly honor, was announced as the winner by the conference office Monday afternoon (Mar. 2).
Jaffurs was a bright spot for St. Mary's College in a 24-5 loss at Christopher Newport University (Feb. 28). The 5-5 team captain led the way with five draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers plus a goal and an assist. All her stats are season-bests.
She is currently tied for the league lead with six caused turnovers while sitting second with seven ground balls. Jaffurs also ranks fourth with eight draw controls while taking eighth with four points.
The Seahawks (0-4) will be back in action Saturday, Marc 7, when SMCM hosts Stevenson University (2-3) at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium in non-conference action at 4 pm.
