St. Mary’s College Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Posts Two Records at Seahawk Invitational

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's outdoor track & field team competed in their only home meet of the season Saturday (Mar. 28), collecting 10 personal-best marks, two school records, and one season-best mark.
 
Senior Kelly Byrne (Rockville, Md./Rockville) picked up the school record in the 5000m run as Byrne clocked a personal-best 16:18.53 to take second in the event. He surpassed the previous record of 16:23.76 set Michael Wade '25 on March 25, 2023.
 
Senior Zack Kralec (Monkton, Md./Hereford) recorded the other school record in the javelin throw with a personal-best distance of 49.69m to finish second overall. Kralec broke his own mark of 48.14 set on May 5, 2024.
 
How It Happened
  • Senior Nicholas Haylock (Odenton, Md./Meade) captured both hurdle events as Haylock crossed the finish line first in the 110m hurdles in 16.83 and then placed first in the 400m hurdles in 1:00.56.
  • Sophomore Moses McRae (Philadelphia, Pa./Kents Hill (Maine)) claimed top honors in the 400m dash with a season-best 52.06 while sophomore Henry Wilcox (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) came in third with a personal-best 53.44.
  • First-year Solomon David (Stephen Decatur) won the long jump with a distance of 6.16m while first-year Korey Blair (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) finished second with 6.05m. First-year Jared Mack-Inniss (Bard Early College DC) went third with a personal-best 5.90m while junior Collin Fitzgerald (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) took eighth with 5.23m.
  • Kralec took top honors in the pole vault with a height of 4.40m.
  • The foursome of seniors Jaedon Aso (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills), Fitzgerald, senior Mason Layne (Taneytown, Md./FSK), and sophomore Sekou Bangoura (Olney, Md./Magruder) finished first in the 4x100m relay in 44.32.
  • Fitzgerald, Layne, McRae, and Haylock came together to win the 4x400m relay in 3:37.17.
  • Fitzgerald came in second in the 200m dash in 23.03 followed by McRae in third in 23.41. Aso took sixth in 24.66 while David placed seventh in 24.89.
  • Sophomore Pierson Hogue (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) placed second in the 1500m run in 4:21.00 while junior Jake Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep) came in seventh with a personal-best 4:27.79.
  • Junior Bryce Webster (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) collected a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best 11:43.16 while first-year Cooper Breakey (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) finished third in 12:30.99.
  • Aso led the Seahawks in the 100m dash with a third-place finish with a personal-best 11.64 while Layne placed fifth in 11.93 and Mack-Inniss took sixth in 12.20.
  • Robey earned a third-place finish in the 800m run in 2:05.12 while Breakey went seventh in 2:15.09.
  • Hogue finished third after Byrne in the 5000m run in 16:59.95 while Webster came in fifth in 18:04.52. Sophomore Owen Swisdak (Sykesville, Md./Century) ran a personal-best 18:46.51 for sixth place while sophomore Jack Kuta (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) was eighth in 19:23.57.
  • Blair and David tied for third in the high jump with 1.75m.
  • Robey went fourth after Kralec's second-place finish in the javelin throw with 38.68m while McRae came in eighth with 28.00m.
  • First-year Albert Morris notched a pair of fifth-place finishes in the discus throw with a personal-best 33.67m and the hammer throw (27.92m) while coming in eighth in the shot put with 9.71m.
  • Senior Doel Nkalo (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) took 10th in the discus throw with a personal-best 27.56m.
