WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team claimed both United East Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for the second time this season. Senior Joshua Martel (Linthicum, Md./North County) was named the Offensive Player of the Week while senior Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon (April 27).
 
This is Martel's third career weekly offensive award while Szymanski is picking up his fourth defensive honor of the season.
 
St. Mary's College wrapped up the regular season with two wins as the Seahawks took down University of Mary Washington, 12-8, on April 21 before dominating University of Pittsburgh-Bradford, 27-1, on April 25 on Senior Day.
 
Martel chipped in a goal and an assist plus a ground ball and a caused turnover against Mary Washington before putting up season-bests of seven points, five goals, and two helpers against Pitt-Bradford.
 
The 5-8 attackman ranks ninth in the United East with 29 goals this season.
 
Szymanski paced the defense against Mary Washington with four loose ball pickups and three caused turnovers while scoring once. The 6-4 defenseman then collected seven ground balls and one caused turnover while adding a goal and an assist on Senior Day.
 
The 6-4 defenseman sits second in the United East with 31 caused turnovers while ranking fifth with 86 ground balls.
 
SMCM (10-7) will be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, when St. Mary's College hosts Cairn University (2-8) in the semifinals of the United East Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium at 3 pm.
